Mimicking the larger, more established festival in Italy, Charleston's Spoleto Festival USA is nonetheless a sight to be seen.
This late May-early June performing-arts fest consists of 17 days of operas, plays, dance and orchestra performances among much, much more. More than 100 events fill the festival schedule, and these take stage across the city -- everywhere from theaters to churches. At its close, Middleton Place hosts a huge lawn show and picnic: The Spoleto Festival Orchestra entertains, and top area chefs do the cooking.
