The name ‘Manas’ was derived from the goddess Manasa.The Manas Wildlife Sanctuary is home to the Manas Reserve Forest, and all of the North Kamrup Reserve Forest, the core of Manas Tiger Reserve, and the Western Assam Wildlife and North Kamrup. The Manas Sanctuary is noted for being an extensive tiger reserve.
Manas Sanctuary stretches from the West Bengal to Arunachal Pradesh to Bhutan Borders. This region is one of the most important migratory wildlife reserves in the world.
Geography
The Manas Sanctuary is located at the foothills of outer Himalayas - a low lying flat area. On the eastern portion of the park runs the Manas River. IT goes on to split into 3 separate rivers which join the great Brahmaputra River about 64 kilometers to the south. The rivers carry with it a lot of silt from the foothills. The silt forms the alluvial terraces that comprises of deep layers of deposited rock
