Over the top, The Calhoun Mansion

Located just north of the White Point Gardens, the Calhoun Mansion is Italian in design and is the largest home in Charleston.

The residence covers 24,000 square feet and has 35 rooms (with 35 fireplaces), a ballroom, three piazzas and more. Although the $15 admission is a bit steep (and the Grand Tour even more steep at $50), several travelers use words like "unbelievable, " "breathtaking" and "fabulous" to describe their experience. Others lament the ticket price and suggest viewing the mansion from the outside for free.
